A Presentation to the New Brunswick Commission on Hydraulic Fracturing by Donald MacPhail

Thanks again for the opportunity to meet with the Commission; I think the hydraulic fracturing issue is one of the most important and long-range ones facing the province. I hope my perspective was helpful.

As discussed, I am happy to have my presentation posted on the Commission’s website and have attached it here with only a few modifications from what was presented the other day. One thing I added was a slide on a the implications of a possible LNG export project as the single parenthetical remark in the version I presented was confusing.

Also attached is an electronic copy of the submission I made on the issue of royalty sharing with landowners to the Shale Gas Public Consultations, 2012 and which I handed out at the meeting. I have extracted the relevant portion of that submission and labelled the attached as “an excerpt”.

I will give some thought to Cheryl’s question as to whether I know of anyone that the Commission should be hearing from - and let you know.

Finally, I mentioned a presentation that I have made a few times – some of yesterday’s slides are excerpted from it – which I call “An Energy Backgrounder for New Brunswickers”. If you know or learn of a group that you think might be interested in that, please feel free to provide them with my contact details.
