Maritime Conference of the United Church of Canada Position on Hydraulic Fracturing

At the 2012 annual gathering of Maritime Conference of The United Church of Canada, approximately 600 representatives present voted to urge provincial governments in this region place a moratorium on on-shore shale gas and coal bed methane development. The rationale for this position is outlined in the attached statement. (Maritime Conference of The United Church of Canada encompasses New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, the Gaspe coast of Quebec, and Bermuda. More than 80,000 members call the United Church their home denomination in this region, worshipping in over 500 congregations.)
